A 17th century manorial house located
in La Merced street, the Goyeneche palace is built in
white sillar, as most other important buildings in Arequipa's
downtown. The traditional Colonial baroque style of
the Casa Goyeneche translates into ample courtyards,
arched ceilings, and typical doors and windows.
The mansion is home to a interesting
collection of paintings from the Cusco and Arequipa
Schools, and to some sculptures from the Spanish Granada
School of the seventeenth century. It currently hosts
the Central Reserve Bank branch offices in Arequipa
and can be visited Monday through Friday, from 9.15am
to 3pm.
