Café Inkaterra
Micky González
Spanish-born Miki Gonzáles has been studying traditional Peruvian music -largely Afro and Andean- since the 1970's. During the 80's and 90's he produced numerous records fusing jazz, rock and pop with local rhythms.
Café Inkaterra, his latest work, merges native melodies and instruments of the Andes and Amazon basin with electronic music. Considered the first -and as far as we know the only- Andean Chill in Perú, Café Inkaterra introduces traditional Peruvian music into a modern and contemporary world of electronic sound.
The first track on the album, "Tusuy Puquio" (Water Dance), builds on the folk theme that plays during the village of Puquio's water festival, and is simply exceptional. The record ranked No. 1 in local sales during May-June 2004. One of a kind.
