Los Hijos del Sol

An all-star conglomerate of Peruvian musicians united to refresh and promote Peruvian music worldwide, Los Hijos del Sol features an excellent cast: master drummer Alex Acuña, queen of Black Peruvian music Eva Ayllón, and guitarist Ramón Stagnaro, among others.

The project -ideated by Alex Acuña- was originally assembled in 1989 as a live performance show to pay tribute to Peruvian music. Rich with Andean idioms, the band also highlights the vivid culture of the coastal regions of Peru where African roots emboldened the historical Spanish presence. The work includes contemporary interpretations of traditional festejos, valses, landós, and huaynos.

Voted one of the top 10 Latin albums of 2002 by The Los Angeles Times.
