Thanks to a sensible fusion of ancient culture and modern art, Carlos Chaquiras has become one of the most famous jewellers in Cusco. Born in the outskirts of Chiclayo, a middle-size city in Peru's northern coast, Chaquiras grew up surrounded by the remains of ancient civilizations, and was constantly exposed to the art of his ancestors.

Since his first days as an artisan jeweller, he began to incorporate, into the more traditional silver jewels, some of the precious materials of the Andean tradition, mostly lapis lazuli, Andean turquoise and spondylus, the red or purple shell found in tropical waters (which ancient Peruvians valued above gold itself).

Chaquiras makes original earrings, necklaces, bracelets and figurines. Prices are expensive but the jewels are worth it.
