During the last few decades, recurrent economic and political crisis have forced many Peruvians to emigrate to the First World. The main destinations have been the USA and Spain, though strong Peruvian communities have prospered in Italy, Germany, and Canada, as well as in other Latin American Countries like Argentina and Chile. As with other immigrant groups, Peruvians have proudly preserved their traditions, above all the cuisine; thus, it's probable that you'll find a Peruvian restaurant nearer than you thought.
Variety can be surprising (New York and New Jersey alone are home to some 100 restaurants), and quality pretty good: London's Fina Estampa, for example, has not only gained the esteem of local residents, but is also regarded by Time Out as "an oasis of Peruvian charm". On the other side of the Atlantic, the cuisine of Cuzco Restaurant in South River, New Jersey, is "soulful and satisfying, not fussy or fancy, but refreshingly honest", according to an Asbury Park Press review. Furthermore, a recent article in the San Francisco Chronicle praises the many Peruvian restaurants in the bay area.
Whether you want to discover Peruvian cuisine before you travel to Peru, or you're nostalgic about your last trip to the country, here is a (much incomplete) list of Peruvian restaurants worldwide. Just bear in mind that, even if some of these eateries are quite good, you'll never get Peruvian fare as you could in Peru.
Enjoy!
