This
cosmopolitan bar occupies the old Cilloniz mansion,
a 100-year old building declared part of Peru's cultural
heritage. Formerly the headquarters of the Parra del
Riego cultural center, during the mid 90s the building
became a backpackers hotel before adopting its current
bar-only status. The name, indeed, is a reminiscence
of the hotel years (mochileros is Spanish for backpackers).
Today
the bar devotedly promotes a wide array of cultural
events, from music to theater to film. Their tight schedule
features live jazz on Tuesdays and jam sessions on Wednesdays.
They
have good native appetizers, such as yuquitas (manioc
fries), tequeños (cheese-filled wanton fingers),
and chicharrones (deep-fried pork). Shows start around
11pm.
