The
amusing name with an African reminiscence refers to
1) a famous Cuban drink, 2) a book by Afro-Cuban poet
Nicolás Guillén, and 3) a popular salsa
song written by Hector Lavoe, a legendary and controversial
Porto Rican singer known as the Bad Boy of Salsa.
And
Songoro Cosongo, the bar, is precisely a blend of good
drinks poetry and music. The bar-restaurant has a criollo
menu and occupies an old colonial mansion declared cultural
site, just half a block from the traditional Puente
de los Suspiros. The joyful music is performed on Fridays
and Saturdays by a skilled bunch of local musicians.
