Built
in 1927 and completely refurbished by 1998, this
deluxe hacienda-style hotel is Lima's most unique
and lovely.
Immortalized
in Alfredo Bryce's renowned novel A
world for Julius, the Country Club is fascinating
and sparkling as ever, although it isn't anymore
the focal point of Lima's social life as it was
during the 50s and 60s, when posh kids used to
swarm around the swimming pool and the most influential
men congregated in the ballroom dressed in their
finest dinner-jackets.
The
refined 75 rooms and suites are decorated with
antique furnishings and colonial paintings on
loan from the prominent Pedro de Osma museum,
besides featuring marble bathrooms, plenty workspace,
and all the modern services. Moreover, some rooms
have great views over the adjacent Lima Golf Club,
while others comprise balconies overlooking the
hotel's pool and gardens.
The
Perroquet restaurant serves international and
traditional Criollo fare, and stages live music
on Fridays and Saturdays. At Los Vitrales lobby
bar, instead, coffee and cocktails are served
to the accompaniment of live piano music (Mondays
through Fridays from 5pm to 8pm). There is also
an English Bar, open until 1am. Rates are more
than fair considering the hotel's grandeur and
overall experience.
