The Hiram Bigham Train to Machu Picchu

Photo © Orient Express

The luxurious Hiram Bigham Train Rail Service actually departs from Poroy (just outside Cusco, some 20 minutes from the city's centre).

The journey takes 3 and a half hours and includes a vast array of first class comforts and facilities: on-board meals with wine (brunch on outward journey, dinner on return), entertainment, guides, bus transfers, entrance to the Machu Picchu sanctuary and afternoon tea at Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, pre-dinner cocktails.

Trains depart at 9am and arrive at 12.30. After a guided visit of the ruins, afternoon tea is served in the magnificent terrace of the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, the only accommodation facility within the ancient citadel. The return train departs at 6.30pm, and includes pre-dinner cocktails, live entertainment and a 4-course, à la carte dinner.
