Inkaterra Machu Picchu, a rustic hotel in the heart of the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary, stands in the hillside next to the train station and offers some great views of the surrounding hills.

This beautiful eco-lodge takes inspiration from the small Andean-style towns that can be found in the clouds forest (the mid-altitude zone where the Andes mountain range starts its descent to meet the Amazon jungle).

The tile-roofed, stone bungalows are rustic yet elegant, styled with local handcrafted Andean architecture, and connected among them through an Inca-style web of stone pathways. The 83 guest houses feature exposed local-wood beams, alpaca bedspreads -hand woven and hand washed-, and deluxe kits of handmade amenities and aromatherapy products.

Home to an impressively large collection of native orchids (372 species), the 5 hectares of cloud forest that surround the Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel are also habitat to a considerable concentration of birds (162 species, including 16 of wild hummingbirds alone), butterflies (111 species), and over 100 fern species. No surprise some of the most delightful attractions offered include orchid tours, bird-watching, and ecological hikes.

Among other hotel services, the Mikhuna Wasi dining room (a large glass house with an outstanding view of the Urubamba River), an Andean sauna (with indigenous bamboo and fresh eucalyptus leaves), and the nearby Inkaterra Café restaurant.
