Located just a few meters from the train station and
overlooking the Vilcanota River, Café Inkaterra
Restaurant occupies a charming stone and wood building.
The set of conical and triangular structures, roofed
with Amazon-style palm thatch, stands out amidst the
surrounding cloud forest in a harmonious way, without
disrupting the natural setting.
Decorated with regional crafts, the interior is luminous
and cosy.
The restaurant offers a blend of Andean and contemporary
cuisine (though more on the contemporary side), with
such dishes as Andean trout with fine herbs and dark
butter, tagliatelle with tomato and eggplant ragout,
and alpaca tenderloin brochettes spiced with ají
panca.
The Inkaterra group, which also runs the Machu
Picchu Pueblo Hotel, has been actively promoting
environmental and cultural conservation in Peru.
Their efforts in the latter have given birth to the
Café Inkaterra project, both the restaurant and
the Café
Inkaterra CD produced by Miki Gonzales, a fusion
of Andean and electronic music.
Café Inkaterra's additional services include
free internet terminals and a small souvenir shop.
