The most popular spots along Peru's
northern beaches are Máncora
and Punta Sal, next one to each other
on opposite sides of the Tumbes-Piura border (Máncora
being in Piura and Punta Sal in Tumbes). Accordingly
to tourist popularity, many accommodation facilities
have opened in both beaches, with Punta Sal having a
more upscale profile, and Máncora being more
popular with youngsters (even if many families spend
their holidays here).

Punta Sal's flag hotel
(probably the oldest in the area) is the Punta
Sal Club Hotel, a luxurious hotel with
the choice of regular rooms, suites, de luxe bungalows,
and even a 4-bedroom independent house right on the
beach. The Punta Sal Club Hotel features a nice restaurant
with an ocean view, a bar, and a private dinning room.
It's entertainment offer is quite rich,
and features deep sea fishing, yatch trips, horseback
riding and the usual nautical games. Other services
include a conference room for 150 people and a boutique
selling local handicrafts and beach clothes and accessories.
Rates (during high season) range from US$ 63 per person
per day for a standard bungalow double room to US$ 119
for the presidential suite.
More economic
alternatives can be fount at Sunset Punta Sal
hotel and Hotel Caballito de Mar, both right on the
beach. Sunset
Punta Sal has 20 bungalows with private
terraces and bathrooms, and specializes in a varied
and professional sports fishing offering. The Caballito
de Mar hotel counts 10 bungalows that accommodate
up to 60 guests. They're all on the ocean-front, with
private terraces and bathrooms. It includes a fish restaurant
and a bar.
Further north, in Zorritos
(always in the Tumbes department), there is a new hotel
and Spa, Costa
Azul. It combines the classic beach offer
with the Spa amenities: sauna, jacuzzi, massages, and
different beauty treatments.
The offer in Máncora
(Piura department) is quite large, and includes from
large upscale hotels small hostels and bungalows-for-rent.
Las
Arenas de Máncora is a 19-room hotel,
part of the Libertador hotel chain (with facilities
also in Cusco
and Arequipa).
Half the rooms are on the sea-front, and all are equipped
with a private bathroom and a terrace with hammocks,
as well as air conditioner, frigobar, and cable-TV.
The hotel features a restaurant, bar, and a palm-lined
swimming pool. Rates from US$ 105 per room (double)
per night.
Máncora
Beach Bungalows, managed by the same owners
as Hotel
Antigua in Lima, offers nice 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom
bungalows for US$ 102 (for 2 guests) and US$ 162 (4
guests).
Sausalito
Beach offers 17 ocean-view rooms with private
terrace with hammocks. It features a restaurant, bar,
and swimming pool. Doubles in high season for US$ 110.
Las
Pocitas hotel is located on Las Pocitas
beach, a nice spot on the same Máncora beach
strip. All of its rooms have sea views, terrace with
hammocks and are a few steps away from the sand.
Puerto
Palos is a further alternative, also including
a restaurant, bar, and swimming pool.
